The exhibition by Josh Jen, in collaboration with J. Adams & Co. and CLO 3D, presented a collection of lamps inspired by global fashion and craft. Each piece explored how clothing traditions can be translated into objects within the home, extending fashion beyond the body.
Using fashion as a foundation, Josh Jen explored how regional clothing from around the world could become a new design language. One that could be translated into objects, spaces and architecture.
Working with the elegance of the Luna Table Light by J. Adams & Co as a starting point, each piece extended an existing object through cultural histories of adornment.
From the movement of fringe, to the symbolism of masquerade, lighting becomes dressed, layered with memory, carrying traces of heritage into everyday space.
Across three pieces, the expressions shifted in clarity and tactility. One explored soft white fringe, almost wax-like in its flow, expanding outward and falling toward the ground. Another drew more directly from West African masquerade traditions, with a stronger and more immediate cultural reference. The final piece was formed from fine black beading, delicate and shimmering, creating a subtle drape that revealed itself only up close.
