The process behind our Strata endcaps.

In Focus: Details in the Making

Details matter. Every single component has a story. This is a journey from raw material to final assembly.

01/ Hot brass stamping

It all starts with solid brass.

Brass billets are heated in a furnace until almost molten, before being placed between two moulds. A 35-tonne force is then dropped onto the upper mould, sandwiching the brass and creating the initial 'donut' form.

02/ Machining

The newly forged ‘donuts’ are cut exactly in half and internal details are machined in using CNC millers. The two individual pieces can now interlock precisely to form the endcap shape.

03/ Finishing

The parts are then satin-polished before being dipped in a patination solution, to create a deep bronze surface finish. They can then either be rubbed back by hand to an antique finish, or dipped again to achieve our bronze finish. A final coat of lacquer preserves the result.

04/ Assembly

Finally, the two halves are fixed together to complete the endcap, which can now be hand-fitted into position as the final step in assembling the Strata Pendant.

05/ The end result

The finished endcap seamlessly wraps the cylindrical form of Strata’s reeded glass tubes back onto itself. Its clean, refined form belies the many-layered process behind its creation.
