J. Adams & Co.: What inspires your lighting designs?

Michael Anastas: Everything! Nature is a big influence—the way light filters through trees or reflects off water. I also draw inspiration from architecture and how it interacts with light and shadow. The goal is to create pieces that feel both functional and sculptural.

J. Adams & Co.: What trends are you seeing in lighting design right now?

Michael Anastas: I’m seeing a shift toward warm, organic materials like brass and wood, paired with minimalist, clean lines. There’s also a growing emphasis on sustainability—using energy-efficient LEDs and materials that have less environmental impact.

J. Adams & Co.: Do you have any tips for choosing the right light for a space?

Michael Anastas: Absolutely! First, consider the purpose of the room—task lighting for kitchens, ambient lighting for living areas, and so on. Layering is key: combine overhead fixtures, wall lights, and table lamps to create depth and dimension. Finally, don’t overlook dimmers—they’re a game-changer for setting the mood.

J. Adams & Co.: What’s your favourite piece from our collection?

Michael Anastas: The [insert product name]! I love its timeless design and the way it balances form and function. It’s versatile enough to work in almost any space.

J. Adams & Co.: What’s next for lighting design?

Michael Anastas: I think the future is all about customisation—fixtures that can adapt to different settings, moods, or times of day. Technology is also advancing, so we’ll see more smart lighting that blends seamlessly into our lives.

J. Adams & Co.: How do you balance form and function in your designs?

Michael Anastas: It’s about ensuring the aesthetics don’t compromise practicality. A piece has to look beautiful, but it also needs to perform its role effectively—whether it’s task lighting or creating ambiance. Every design starts with the question: how will this enhance the space?

J. Adams & Co.: What role does craftsmanship play in your work?

Michael Anastas: Craftsmanship is everything. The skill and attention to detail that go into each piece are what make it truly special. From the choice of materials to the final assembly, the process is as important as the design itself.

J. Adams & Co.: How do you approach designing for different styles of interiors?

Michael Anastas: Versatility is key. I aim to create pieces that can complement a variety of styles, from classic to contemporary. It’s about designing lighting that feels timeless and can adapt to the unique personality of each space.

J. Adams & Co.: What’s your advice for someone updating their home lighting?

Michael Anastassiades: Start with the spaces you use most and focus on layering light. Combine functional lighting with accent and ambient options for flexibility. And don’t be afraid to invest in a statement piece—it can transform a room.

J. Adams & Co.: How does sustainability influence your design choices?

Michael Anastassiades: It’s a guiding principle. I choose materials that are durable and responsibly sourced, and I consider the product’s lifecycle. Creating lighting that lasts helps reduce waste and supports a more sustainable future.
